some photos
On Monday, I visited West Lake with Xiaokui, a math grad student at Zhejiang University. West Lake has small pedestrian roads through it linked by arching chinese bridges. There are some islands you can visit by boat, including one whose picture is on the one yuen bill.
Xiaokui took some photos. I should warn you first that I had not yet found Starbucks at this point in time; the Nescafe didn't cut it and I had a ROARING headache. So if you notice that I look kind of ill and tired in these pictures, that is the reason why. My coffee problem has since been solved and aside from ripping my hair out over computer issues at the CMS, I am quite happy and well.
Here is a photo of me and Xiaokui in front of the CMS.
Here we are in front of the giant statue of Chairman Mao on campus.
And photos around West Lake.

That's one hell of a big statue. And the lake is beautiful!
